Because nobody tells you what this bit is actually like, do they?

You are probably managing fine.
Still showing up, still engaged, still doing the things you do.
But.
At the back of your mind, there are questions you haven't quite turned to face yet.
- What happens to your health as the years go on?
- What if you end up alone?
- What if you need care and don't want to be a burden to the people you love?
You know you should probably address these things. You're just not quite ready to. Not yet.
And here's what nobody mentions: everyone else feels exactly the same way. We're all doing a very good job of pretending otherwise.
What if there was a small group of women willing to say the thing out loud?
Not to wallow in it. Not to catastrophise. But to look at it together — honestly, warmly, sometimes with a laugh —
and discover that together we're actually far more resourceful than we realised when we face it alone.
That's what the Conscious Ageing Circle is.

❤️ A monthly gathering on Zoom, and an ongoing WhatsApp group, where women like you - those who are done with the surface-level chat - come together to talk about what's really going on.
❤️ We talk about bodies. Not in some abstract way — in a real, practical, sometimes exasperated way. The aches. The changes. The adaptations. How to live in a body that keeps doing its own thing, regardless.
❤️ We talk about connection and loneliness. How to build and keep the relationships that sustain us. How to ask for what is needed without feeling like a nuisance.
❤️ We talk about the burden question. The one that haunts a lot of us. How to stay independent without becoming isolated. How to accept help without losing dignity. How to plan for what's coming without giving up on living fully now.
❤️ We talk about death. Yes, that too. I'm not afraid of it, and I've found that once we start talking about it, most people aren't as afraid as they thought.
Whatever comes up, gets talked about. There's no agenda beyond honesty and real connection.
Who am I, and why does this matter?
"My name is Jane Duncan Rogers. I'm a writer, former psychotherapist, life and business coach, end-of-life planning specialist, and TEDx speaker, based in Scotland.
I've been sitting with the harder questions of human life for a long time. In 2011 my first husband Philip died. I was 54, childless, suddenly alone, and facing everything I'd been afraid of. What I discovered in the years that followed is that the fears are almost always worse than the reality — and that the people who get through it best are the ones who looked at their reality before it arrived.
That led to a book (Gifted By Grief), a TEDx talk (How to Do a Good Death), and eight years running an end-of-life planning not-for-profit.
Now I write a Substack newsletter called Embracing Ageing, and I'm happily married again to Ian (also a widower, we both know how lucky we are). I created the Conscious Ageing Circle because I know that the women who talk about this stuff together age better than the ones who keep it to themselves.
I'm not going to tell you what to think or feel. I'm going to be in the room with you, asking the same questions."
